Behind Every Delivery: Flora’s Journey with the Imbeju Program
Flora Mwaijele
Starts her day early in Dar es Salaam, preparing her Bajaji for a full schedule of deliveries. The vehicle, marked with her brand A+, is a key part of her growing sanitary pads business. What began as a simple idea has now expanded thanks to her hard work and the support she received from the Imbeju Program.
As a member of the Tanzania Women’s Chambers of Commerce (TWCC), Flora identified a real need in the market. “I did research and found that most sanitary pads were causing itching, had poor glue, had no pleasant smell, and didn’t meet the needs of women with heavy flows,” she explains. Determined to offer a better product, she created the A+ brand to provide women with a comfortable and reliable alternative.
However, delivery challenges limited her ability to reach more customers and grow the business. Through TWCC, Flora discovered the Imbeju Program, which supports women and youth entrepreneurs with training and seed capital.
With the program’s support, Flora received a Bajaji worth TZS 10,000,000, which she used to improve delivery capacity and expand her customer base. “Before the Bajaji from the Imbeju Program, I could deliver about 150 sanitary pads a day. Now, I’m able to deliver 600, a 70% increase,” she says.
The expanded delivery system also allowed Flora to create jobs for five young people, further supporting her community.

Support of the Imbeju Program
Today, Flora has six agencies across Tanzania to sell A+ sanitary pads, all run by women entrepreneurs. By creating these opportunities, she is empowering other women to become business owners themselves.
Flora also supports other women by sourcing raw materials and packaging services from women and small businesses within her network. In doing so, she strengthens the local value chain and helps create sustainable economic opportunities that uplift not just her own business, but others throughout the region.
“I believe that when we support each other, we all grow,” she says. Flora plans to grow her product line to include diapers, wipes, and panty liners. “The Imbeju Program gave Flora the tools and confidence to build a business that empowers women.
Flora’s story shows how research, dedication, and the right support can turn an idea into a thriving business.
